Lee county is shared with the Sandhills branch.

In the counties served by the Raleigh branch, over 264,012 individuals are at risk of hunger; 93,533 are children and over 8% are 65 years and over.

History of the
Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC

The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina was founded in 1980 as the Community Food Bank, the first food bank in the state. The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina provided start-up funds prompted by its concern about an increasing problem of homelessness and hunger in Raleigh and its surrounding communities.

Since its founding, the Food Bank has expanded services in an attempt to keep pace with a growing demand for emergency food, distributing more than 236 million pounds of food in the process. In 1984, the Food Bank gained affiliation with Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest).

On three separate occasions, the Food Bank has outgrown warehouse space. In 1985, the organization distributed just under 1 million pounds of food to a network of nearly 100 agencies. In 1996, distribution rose to 6.5 million pounds of food to a family of 480 private, emergency feeding programs and sister food banks (1 million pounds of which was disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Fran).

1999 brought Hurricane Floyd to eastern North Carolina, and with it, the Food Bank’s largest distribution ever. The devastation caused by the flooding after Hurricane Floyd was identified as the worst ever in North Carolina’s history. The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina distributed 18.8 million pounds of food in fiscal year 1999-2000.

Today, the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina for more than 30 years. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through distribution centers in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, the Sandhills (Southern Pines), and Wilmington. In fiscal year 2012-2013, the Food Bank distributed nearly 52 million pounds of food and non-food essentials through these agencies. Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 560,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families.

Raleigh Tennis Lessons – Tennis Willpower!

Today’s Raleigh Tennis Lessons

In Raleigh Tennis Lessons today we learn about willpower.

The strength of will (resolutely controlling your own behavior) to carry out one’s decisions, wishes, goals, or plans. We have a goal to go to nationals. To be able to do that the whole team needs to be working together to be the best from #1 to #12. Each one of us needs to work on the things that will make us more successful. We have been providing Raleigh Tennis Lessons since 1991 when Robert moved here from California. The way I have helped so many of my players in the past is that I test them to find something that they think is impossible. When I find that thing they think is impossible, I then show them how to do it, and before you know it, they have done the impossible. Pull-ups are the one exercise that a person can try to do that will build stronger willpower than any other exercise. In my day we climbed trees all the time. I could clear a 10 foot fence in less time then it took a spectator could get out of their chair to get a ball that bounced out of the court. By the time, you have done 1 pull-up you have not only raised up your whole body with your bare hands. You have raised up your spirit, enhanced your self-esteem, self-control, and increased your tenacity. This is the strength of will you have to have to do your strokes and play your game, not your opponent’s game throughout your entire match. Read the following articles and study how you want to build your willpower. Talk it over with your parents.

Every day in our Raleigh Tennis lessons, we work on the things most people won’t – conditioning, stroke production, tactics, strategy, goals, willpower. Do we have fun in our Raleigh Tennis Lessons? Yes! Do we work hard in our Raleigh Tennis Lessons? Yes! Do we learn something new in our Raleigh Tennis Lessons? Yes! We work on our mental games learning how to do the impossible. We teach that Roger Federer has 56 different forehands at 80% or higher. So, we don’t teach just one stroke or style. We teach each stroke so that you know its strength, its weakness and how to use it in its weakest form as a winner. We try to build weapons that will defeat your opponent. We share other sites that teach the same subject. We work as a; friend, life coach, tennis coach, tennis instructor, tennis analyst, hitting partner. We share our willpower with our students to build and strengthen theirs.

Tennis Instruction

Tennis Instruction with Do It Right Sports is more than Imparted Tennis knowledge. We work hard  to take that imparted knowledge and convert it into Wisdom ( the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting about the knowledge you have and use that knowledge properly). We work with basic principles that apply to not just Tennis. Robert Gibson has played all sports except bungee jumping and curling and has played open Tennis and Volleyball.

Tennis instruction includes helping the individuals learn in multi learning styles and helping them really improve their Visualization skills because that seems to be a dominant skill used by professional athletes. Our students learn to hit the ball with their eyes closed. They learn to practice their Visualization when reviewing their tennis journals, or their tennis analytics.

We are leading the Tennis instruction industry by providing Analytics to our training process. Tennis was the second worst sport in the Analytics arena. We use Boomer a Tennis Robot that acts as one of the ever best statisticians during your practice. The machine will track every ball you hit in with; the Depth, Width, Speed, and NTRP rating level. Players can learn new motor skills and work on them for the usual 10 weeks it takes to learn a new skill and then test their proficiency in either or both Game Mode or Drill Mode. Yes, Boomer can play full matches from level 2.0 to 7.0.

Introducing a 17-year-old Product line Advocare. I am going on a journey to get back into competition shape. I started at 225 lbs. age 55 where I plateaued and will be working my way back to 185 Lbs. Many of you saw me at 275 lbs. age 54.  Therefore, I am going to go on the Advocare 24 day challenge to lose my last 35 lbs… If all works out, I should be at a weight to start training to compete again in 2 or 3 months. At the end of my 24-day challenge, I will start working with Boomer to improve my competitive skills. The 24-day challenge is a great kick-start to prepare for the Holiday season as well. Don’t wait until New Year’s Day to set your goals. Goals reflect the desires of your heart and your vision of what you can accomplish. Through goals and plans, your hopes can be transformed into actions. This will be documented as your personal records and accomplishments. At Do It Right Sports, we help you benchmark the tennis player you are and help you set the goals and routines that will get you to new records and accomplishments that you think are impossible.

The first day I tried Spark a noticed a focus I hadn’t felt since I was in College. Every hit was sharper and clearer in my head. I had to tell my hitting partner at the end of our session I might be cheating using the Spark energy Drink against him. They are completely usable by all athletes and will not affect any drug testing for your sport. In other words, they are not illegal and it not cheating by any means. You are just giving the body the nutrition and supplements you need that you don’t get from your regular diet to perform at your best. It doesn’t change your training. If you have never concentrated on hitting the ball, you still won’t concentrate on hitting the ball.

It is day 19 I am down to 212 Lbs. However, more people around me are saying that I look skinner. I seem to be losing more and more inches. My clothes are looking baggier. I am using CATALYST™ to maintain muscle. I just seem to be losing Belly Fat.

It is day 22: I woke up and weighed in at 210 lbs. This makes 15 lbs. and it looks like mostly fat around the mid section is going away.

Golden Set (How tennis analytics plays a part.)

This accomplishment is not looked at in the junior ranking, and is not even know about by most tennis players. But Oct.12 2013 in a 14U JTT match the Number 3, 12 year old Player who has been training with Boomer and learning about tennis analytics realized an accomplishment he never thought was possible come about.

Rahul Subramanian won his first Golden Set. A Golden set: Set which is won without dropping a single point! In the professional top tier players, only 3 people have ever accomplished this in match play.  Pauline Betz 1943, Bill Scanlon 1983, and Yaroslava Shvedova 2012.

Some people ask why more people do not get this accomplishment. There are multiple reasons. Here are just 2 reasons that my students learn on a regular bases. Most points are over in 3 strokes almost 75% of the time, this is at all levels of play because the players are at the same level of play in competition. The next reason is that this means you have to hit a minimum of 24 strokes in a row without mistakes. That is 12 serves and 12 service returns in a row, this does not take into account points that are more than 1 stroke. My players are given drills to squeeze a tennis ball 96 times every 2 seconds, Right hand, Left Hand to work on the timing of winning a match in the least number of strokes.

In our 14U prep course we are practicing/working on principles that will lead to greater competitiveness (a point system for ranking players), average speeds of 55-65 MPH, Consistency of 50 shots in a row, 1/4 court control spin, power, depth and width, Regular balls are used in the class, Full court, Spin Tactics and Strategies to use at this level, Strength building, foot work, conditioning, balance, speed and agility.

Congratulations to Rahul Subramanian. If you see, Rahul give him a pat on the back. He is an upcoming Star shining bright in all that he does.
