Tennis At its Best – Do It Right Sports

Tennis Instructor Cary

I would like to share with you three laws of tennis with three different specific reasons to abide them.

The first tennis law I would like to teach is a law that will teach you how to never lose.

The number one law to never lose at tennis is never lose two points in a row. It is impossible to lose a match if you never lose two points in a row. This is only true if you’re playing ad scoring. This law does not apply to no-ad scoring unless you always win the first point.. The rule that applies to no-ad scoring is always win the last.

The second law of tennis I like to teach is the way to guarantee you’ll win. Always win two points in a row  every game and win the last point. If you have a way to win two points in a row then you can win every game and every match. Having a coach can help teach you ways that will allow you to win two points in a row.

The third law of tennis teaches you how to not have to work so hard for your game, set or match. Always win: the first point, he first point of the game, the first point of the set. The first point of a match, the first game of set, the first set in a match, the first match of the tournament. This Law goes a long way to setting the that momentum, increasing confidence, and keeps you from having to play catch-up before you can start to win. When you win the first you are leading the way and your opponent is behind you.

Boomer is tennis innovator

Boomer is tennis innovator

Posted: Saturday, December 29, 2012 4:45 am

A strange and sarcastic amplified voice came from the Eastern Arizona College’s tennis court on Friday afternoon.  “Are you sure you’ve had enough?”  There was a man and a machine.

Then the amplified voice came on again, “End of game.”  This had to be investigated.

At that moment, a flurry of consecutive tennis balls came flying out of a machine positioned at the center of the far end of the court.  Something was amiss here.  Was it gremlins in the machine?

“I am out of balls,” boomed Boomer.  This was getting weird.

There was a man, Robert Allen Gibson from Cary, N.C.,  pushing around another contraption that resembled a lawn mower without the motor that was scooping up the balls. He was in the Gila Valley for the holidays to visit with family, mother-in-law Marie Rhodes who teaches at Solomon school, and to put on a tennis clinic for family, friends or whoever wanted to join in.

Meanwhile, Boomer sat in its center position at the far end of the court.

Boomer, he said, is the most advance tennis ball machine of its kind  – an advanced tennis robotic ball machine.  The company, Do It Right Sports, has not produced another one yet.  According to Gibson there are seven currently being constructed for distribution on the Eastern Seaboard.

Gibson got involved two years ago with David Jordan, who began inventing Boomer the concept machine 14 years ago.  Boomer is available on the market, but the Gila Valley got one of the first looks at this new vision in the tennis world.

“Our job is to teach and encourage tennis players at any age or play level,” Gibson said.

It can play any level of pro tennis and has yet to be beaten on the 7.0 or “international” level.  It plays complete games of tennis, training sessions for all levels and gives a complete data-spread breakdown of its opponents’ swing, speed, ball placement and more.

Analytics is the key to Boomer, aside from its humorous retorts. With its built-in camera, it records and produces an analysis and a report for its opponent, coach or trainer to look at and gain valuable insight to a player’s game.

“This right here is one-of-a-kind and the most advanced tennis analytic machine ever built,” Gibson said.

On Friday it was going through a training session with Cole and Zach Wright and Hunter Jarvis.  Boomer was playing with all three kids at once and identifying each individual and talking back to them.

“It’s the only machine that can do what a tennis trainer can,” Gibson said.  “A player can run a game and then take the spreadsheet to a coach and have a complete breakdown, right down to what shot sequence you should be using,” Gibson said.

According to Gibson, the complete machine with analytics program will cost $20,000 when available.

There will be one more session available to Gila Valley residents Jan. 2-4, and those interested can contact Gibson at 919-522-9463 More information is available  at  www.doitrightsports.com.

Faith – Is a tool that is used by all. Faith takes a belief/hope and if acted upon will give you a results. If that belief/hope is a true principle it will always give you the same outcome leading you to knowledge. Faith exercised leads to Knowledge. Correctly applied knowledge will lead you to wisdom.

Last Night as players listen to what I had to say about the service return they found that if they moved towards the net and only did a half swing the ball stayed lower and they were able to return even 100 mph servers that were spraying all over the place just moments before. Is there more to learn about the service return absolutely. Timing, Visualization, Control, Power but for just a few minutes they saw the possibilities and the hope that they could be good if they want to be. They are satisfied to return 1 professional serve. Andy Roddick was satisfied with 1 Grand Slam and $20,637,390.00  during his career.

The strength of our faith is only as strong as the number of things we are willing to hope for and believe in. Too many of us quit hoping for things because we have so much or are so blessed or we have done that, I am done with that item like it is a check list or we have hoped for things to happen without doing anything and have lost our faith along the way.

Remember that all truth comes from God and is testified to by the Holy Ghost. Burn it in your heart and soul and you will know it is true:

Alma 32:21

And now as I said concerning faithfaith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

You can have a great Backhand. You can play 4.0. You can have a great service return, but remember we as human beings have limited sight. Don’t limit where you can go or what you can do. Open your eyes to hope and faith. “Be ye Perfect even as I am perfect.” All things are possible.

Class 09/08 Cancelled Lesson on US Open Upsets

US Open Upsets

What contributes to an upset?

  • Did you know they resurface the courts every year changing the Sand mixture.
  • High Winds
  • Court Tempatures
  • Rain Delays
  • Did you noticed Federer used body shots on his serves more than he use to.

Was Federer playing different because nothing was working or was he off on his judgement/reading of the ball giving him different results.

More and more people say he needs to retire.

  • Are you going to retire Nadal, Djokovic, Murry too???

SOmething to think about while it is raining here in NC.

Cary Tennis Lessons – Tennis Willpower!

Today’s Cary Tennis Lessons

In Cary Tennis Lessons today we learn about willpower.

The strength of will (resolutely controlling your own behavior) to carry out one’s decisions, wishes, goals, or plans. We have a goal to go to nationals. To be able to do that the whole team needs to be working together to be the best from #1 to #12. Each one of us needs to work on the things that will make us more successful. We have been providing Cary Tennis Lessons since 1991 when Robert moved here from California. The way I have helped so many of my players in the past is that I test them to find something that they think is impossible. When I find that thing they think is impossible, I then show them how to do it, and before you know it, they have done the impossible. Pull-ups are the one exercise that a person can try to do that will build stronger willpower than any other exercise. In my day we climbed trees all the time. I could clear a 10 foot fence in less time then it took a spectator could get out of their chair to get a ball that bounced out of the court. By the time, you have done 1 pull-up you have not only raised up your whole body with your bare hands. You have raised up your spirit, enhanced your self-esteem, self-control, and increased your tenacity. This is the strength of will you have to have to do your strokes and play your game, not your opponent’s game throughout your entire match. Read the following articles and study how you want to build your willpower. Talk it over with your parents.

Every day in our Cary Tennis lessons, we work on the things most people won’t – conditioning, stroke production, tactics, strategy, goals, willpower. Do we have fun in our Cary Tennis Lessons? Yes! Do we work hard in our Cary Tennis Lessons? Yes! Do we learn something new in our Cary Tennis Lessons? Yes! We work on our mental games learning how to do the impossible. We teach that Roger Federer has 56 different forehands at 80% or higher. So, we don’t teach just one stroke or style. We teach each stroke so that you know its strength, its weakness and how to use it in its weakest form as a winner. We try to build weapons that will defeat your opponent. We share other sites that teach the same subject. We work as a; friend, life coach, tennis coach, tennis instructor, tennis analyst, hitting partner. We share our willpower with our students to build and strengthen theirs.

US Open Are you ready?

US Open!

Matches are being held in Winston – Salem as the Pros get ready for the US Open! Are you getting ready for the US open? Have you prepared to watch the matches and learn something new? What can you learn from the Pros that you might be able to use in your games? Can you record the matches? Is it true 70- 75 % of all points are over in less than 3 strokes. Is it true that 80 % of the serves go to the T or out wide on the pro tour. Is it true you win the point on a first serve in 70 – 75% of the time and only win 35-45% of the time on a second serve [at Wimbledon this Novak Djokovic changed this rule by winning 65 % of his second service points against Roger Federer
]? How many liners (points more than 8 strokes each) do the Pros run in a Match? At the US Open you get more and more statistic about the players every year. With these statistic you can see how the game is changing. Study and learn from the Pros, by clinking on the link below but be warned Matt Washington was at the Winston – Salem event a few years ago and said “I wished I had studied more film of my game. Lake Lynn Grand Slams Raleigh City Champions 14 U Silver.

Congrats to the Lake Lynn Grand Slams Now 2014 14 under City of Raleigh Champions

Seasonally Lake Lynn teams trained hard not just winning matches but they practiced winning points and even more importantly not giving up points. Lake Lynn Grand Slams 14 U finished in first place winning 88% of their Matches, 67% games won and  72% of sets won. Lake Lynn Aces 12U team finished in first place winning 57% of their matches a 59% games won and a set ratio of 62%. Lake Lynn Mighty Slams 10U team finished in Second place for the season winning 71% of their matches, had  63% game Win ratio and a 66% set win ratio. A great job done by all. All of the players improved while working with Boomer. Some players learned how to give up fewer points. Others learned new tactics to win points. One player remains undefeated 3 seasons straight during league matches. Some won more games than in previous seasons. All this has come from hard work and sacrifice.
